Are you a business owner, employer, or consultant in Kenya? If so, the 9th of the month is an important date on your calendar for tax compliance. Missing this deadline can lead to penalties, so let’s break it down.

First up, PAYE (Pay As You Earn). Employers, this is for you! Every month, you’re responsible for deducting taxes from your employees’ salaries and remitting them to the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) by the 9th of the following month. The last thing you want is to face penalties for late submissions!

Next, if you’ve paid consultants or service providers, you probably deducted Withholding Tax. That, too, needs to be submitted by the 9th. This applies to payments like rent, dividends, and even interest on loans.

Are you a small business? If your annual sales fall below Ksh 50 million, you might fall under Turnover Tax (TOT). It’s easy to forget, but that 1% tax on gross monthly sales is also due by the 9th.
